Lavande et lavandin

Lavender and lavandins are part of the Provençal landscape

In addition to their typical colors, they have an iconic and traditional scent. We have been producing lavender and lavandin essential oil since 1947

LAVANDER

Lavender is a plant that occurs naturally, grows generally at altitude, and reproduces naturally by seed.

VS

LAVANDIN

Lavandin comes from a cross between lavender aspic and true lavender. It reproduces only by cuttings. Lavandin is therefore not found in the wild.

THE VARIETIES OF LAVENDER

KNOW DIFFERENTIAL NUANCES

Lavandula
Angustifolia

Nicknamed “true lavender” or “fine lavender”, it is rare and expensive.

It is the best of lavender for its perfume. True lavender is recognized by its small stem, between 30 and 40 cm, and its smaller flower spike. It is also the variety with the most pronounced calming effect.

Lavender Maillette is a clone of fine lavender, reproduced by cuttings.
The lavender feet, like those of the lavandins, are all identical.

Lavandula
Latifolia

Known as “Spike Lavender”, it is easier to grow because it grows in the valleys between 0 and 600 m. Its scent is less subtle than fine lavender.

Lavandula
Hybrida

Here are all the varieties of lavandin: grosso, super, abrial.

The stem of lavandin is longer than that of lavender, between 60 and 80cm.
Its spike is larger and longer, with a more vivid and purple spike color.
The lavandin also has two lateral spikelets on the stem.
